Some advice to young dancers on listening to music

Based on my experience teaching music to young dancers, I'd like to give some advice...

Strive to deeply understand the music you dance to through repeated listening sessions, not necessarily from start to finish (depending on its duration), but also in sections.
Each new listen unveils additional details, nuances, tones, and messages. The clearer and more comprehensible the music is to you, the clearer and simpler your movement management becomes. And you'll learn choreographies more efficiently and faster!

Form a distinct personal opinion about the music you listen to and dance to. The more music you expose yourself to, the more refined your taste becomes, which should be as defined as possible. Without diverse listening experiences, there's a risk of limited knowledge that desensitizes you and leads to "suffering" both the music and the choreography. The approach shifts solely to memorizing steps (which is crucial but insufficient). Risk: a dry and possibly detached approach.

When you listen, think like choreographers. Imagine crafting your own choreography that reflects your taste, ideas, and sensitivity.
It's a fantastic training method!
This way, you move beyond merely acquiring step sequences and begin to engage with the music. You analyze it, delve into its nuances, understand it, and finally, joyfully, magnificently, interpret it!
